Our urgent care in Savannah, GA is here to help you with your mask care.

Before COVID hit, face masks were never something many people outside the healthcare field thought about. But, as time continued and the need for masks has increased, many people have opted to get cloth masks to reduce waste and include their masks in their day-to-day wear. However, even months later, there’s still a lot of controversy and talk over proper mask wear and how to maintain these masks. As professionals of our craft, we’re happy to help you with your mask maintenance and information. Find out more with our urgent care in Savannah, GA.

Washing a Cloth Mask

When our clothes get dirty, we throw them in the wash. It’s just common sense, right? Many people seem to believe they don’t need to clean their face masks. However, if that was the case, why would doctors throw used masks in the trash? It’s all about cleanliness.

According to the CDC, there are several ways to wash your cloth face mask. The first is by washing machine. Simply place your mask in with your regular laundry at the proper setting. Simple, right? The other way is washing by hand. If you choose to use bleach, make sure you can wash your mask with it, and select the proper bleach specifically for disinfection. Some types of bleach aren’t usable.

When it comes to drying, there are also two different types of styles. Luckily, both are also very simple. If you choose to use the dryer, place your mask inside on the highest heat setting and leave until dry. Alternatively, if you choose to air dry, leave the mask hanging in the sunlight.

How Many Face Masks Do I Need?

While it might have been seen as unnecessary initially, it’s useful to have more than one mask. Why? Simply to have an extra in case the other is dirty or in the wash. We actually recommend you have more just because sometimes life happens, but two is a good minimum to shoot for.

Properly Wearing A Mask

Wearing a mask properly not only protects you but others! There are few people who choose to not put the mask over their nose. However, the CDC also says to put the mask over your nose and mouth, secured under your chin. Leaving your nose uncovered practically removes the point of the mask entirely. Because even though your mouth is covered, virus particles can still get in your nose very easily without a mask protecting you. So do yourself a favor and make sure that your mask is properly secure before leaving your home.
